Reaching for the stars or reaching for the womb?

Have you ever noticed how children are so fascinated with small spaces and being small?

Thumbelina, tiny dolls, dollhouses, tiny crawl spaces, tiny forts, "let me see if I can fit into that tiny space... I bet I can!" Is like their constant mantra.

We all want to go back to where it feels safe.

As children, we are growing whether we like it or not, and unconsciously we want to crawl back into our mother's womb where it was small and safe and we were completely taken care of.

The womb, it's like our tether to this earth experience.

But... even as children we simultaneously wanted our freedom. Our independence. Our "I can do it all by myself."

Until one day, we find ourselves out in the great big world... and have you ever noticed how obsessed we become as adults with vast wide spaces?

I LOVE stopping at vistas, admiring giant waterfalls or valleys, staring at the great big sky, day or night... there's something to that epic moment on Titanic when Jack throws his arms out at the mast of the ship and exclaims, "I'm the king of the world!"

Like somehow unconsciously our vastness is now what we crave. More expansive, more free...

Bigger, better, faster is so cliché but it's also so seductive... bc it's our truth.

We now are unconsciously attuned to our own divinity.

And yet we simultaneously fight and resist it all along the way, don't we? Our human shows up with self-sabotage, playing-small, hiding, numbing... maybe some part of us still wants the womb.

So which is it then?

  • It's both.

  • It's a paradox.

And this paradox brings us peace when we realize and accept that we are BOTH small and nothing, and vast and expansive, all at the same time.

The womb IS the universe.

We can't have one without the other.

And you are both human and divine. And both are perfect. And so is everyone around you, no matter which direction they are currently reaching.

The sooner we understand this, the sooner we can simply accept...

Accept our natural tendency and need to 'climb back into the womb'...

AND

Accept our incessant desire and drive to uplevel and go bigger...

And then, even accept the maddening tension when both seem to be present at the exact same time.

If I didn't lose you with my woo woo 😅 and you made it all the way to the end...

How do you notice this paradox playing out in your life?

Are you reaching for the womb or the stars today?

Me personally? My answer is both.

"Melisa was a light when I was in a dark place. She listened, offered experiences and support. She helped me to feel validated and to regain power that I had given away. I would highly recommend Melisa as a mentor!"
